Coconut water vs Gatorade

Most people do not know this about me but I have always been and still am a very physically active person. I play as well as coach competitive soccer and on top of that I try to workout at least 3-4 times a week. Although the commercials on television say that I should be drinking Gatorade to replenish all lost from my workout, my go to sports drink comes already perfectly packaged by nature and is an excellent post workout beverage.  Yes, I am talking about coconut water. Raw coconut water is my favorite drink for after all of my workouts whether I am coming from a soccer game, a five mile run, or a long hike. There are a multitude of reasons why I choose it and why you should be drinking coconut water as well because when it comes to facts coconut water skyrockets above Gatorade for the sports drink. Here is why.

1.)    Raw coconut water is a living food

2.) Coconut water is full of vitamins, minerals, enzymes, and electrolytes (that word sports drink companies love to throw around)

3.)    It  is anti-bacterial and anti-fungal

4.)    It alkalizes the body (Yay!)

5.)     Most importantly it is one of the MOST hydrating liquids that you can put inside your body.

Although I do get strange looks busting out my coconut water after a long soccer game, I know that that it is the perfect fuel for my body at that given time. Not only can you replace all electrolytes lost from your workout, but also receive so much health benefits without the added sugar, processed ingredients and chemicals that are included in your average sports drink. So next time you are tempted to accept that sports drink politely say “no thanks” and go for the coconut water instead.

*Only raw/uunpasturized coconut water should be used
